Dr. Lawrence T. Beatty MD, Primary Care

Dr. Lawrence Beatty, MD, specializing in family medicine, joins Prime Care Providers (“PCP“) with over 45 years of experience as a family physician.  Before joining PCP, he spent 32 years in private practice and spent the other 13 years working with local hospitals and a family practice group. Dr. Beatty is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Beatty has dedicated himself and his practice to the people of Johnstown and the surrounding communities. After graduating from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA in June 1975, he returned to his hometown in Davidsville, PA to complete his internship and residency at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital. Upon completion of his residency in 1978, he joined Family Practice Associates. He worked with this group until 1984 at which time he opened his private practice called, “Larry Beatty, MD, Family Medicine.” He ran his private practice for 32 years. Subsequently, from 2018 to 2021, he worked with Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber. Today, he is serving his patients at PCP’s Seward, PA location. Dr. Beatty also sees patients at the following nursing homes: Harmony House Manor, Atrium Manor, Arbutus Park Manor, and Brookside Manor Personal Care Home. He serves as the Team Physician at ProMedica Heartland Hospice in Somerset, PA. Finally, he continues to volunteer his time by serving as the Physician at Peniel Residential Drug/Alcohol Treatment Center, which he has done faithfully since 2009.

Dr. Beatty takes pride in being labeled as an “old school physician,” a physician with great clinical skills and highly respected by both the patient and their families. Early in his career while training under family physicians at Family Practice Associates, he was told to “listen to the patients, then treat them.” He built his private practice on this advice, always taking time to listen to his patients and then carefully and thoroughly thinking through the diagnosis and treatment plan.  This has served him and his patients well. It is of no surprise that Dr. Beatty has dozens of patients which he has treated for over three to four decades.

When Dr. Beatty is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and a Boston Terrier who is considered the 12 grandchild. He also enjoys skeet shooting and is a life member of the NRA.
